Maranatha is a groan and a prayer that before the return of Jesus will be the overwhelming cry of all of us, both individually and corporately – “COME LORD JESUS!” It is the plan of God that the Church, as His people, recover the Maranatha cry to determine that our lives are in alignment with His desire for us. In the early church there was a declaration – “Maranatha!” that has mostly been lost today, meaning – “The Lord HAS come. The Lord IS coming.” This is the gospel, the good news of hope we are extending to the world. Jesus has come and provided forgiveness for sins, but He’s also coming back to judge the living and the dead, and He’s coming back to restore Eden and the Kingdom of David.
