The Book of Hebrews makes a big deal about the fact that Jesus has been exalted as a great high priest “in the order of Melchizedek.” Who was Melchizedek? What does it mean for Jesus to be a high priest “in the order of Melchizedek”? How does Jesus’ priesthood relate to our salvation? What are the practical implications for our lives as followers of Christ? These are the questions we explore in this seminar. In this session, we begin by exploring the core assumptions about the governmental/priestly structure of creation presupposed by the statements made about the priesthood of Melchizedek in the New Testament. To understand the priesthood of Melchizedek, we must recognize that the center of priestly activity in the created order is also located geographically in the place of greatest governmental authority in the created order.
