THE OBJECTIVE: MAKE YOU FISHERMEN

a. Western Bible teaching makes you reliant on new information to feel
satisfied.
b. “Give a Man a Fish, and You Feed Him for a Day. Teach a Man To Fish, and You
Feed Him for a Lifetime

GENESIS 12, DEUTERONOMY 32, THE PLAN

1. At the Tower of Babel the gods were assigned to different family groups or clans
a. Tower of Babel: Genesis 11:7-9
b. The ‘gods of the nations’ or ‘gods of the Gentiles’ Judges 10:6
c. Deuteronomy 32:8-9 “According to the sons of god…”
d. Yahweh remained the god of only Abraham’s family
2. Genesis 12 is the Plan Chapter.
a. God chose Abraham’s family to one day draw the other families back from
their rebellion to relationship with Yahweh. Gen. 12:1-3
3. This “covenant” (i.e. The Plan) involved separating Abraham’s family from the
nations, entrusting them with His words, and teaching them to trust Him.
a. Exodus 19:4-6
4. Much of the story of the Bible is dedicated to Abraham’s (Israel/Judah) learning how
to walk faithfully with Yahweh so that they can walk in their calling.
a. 1st commandment: no other gods but me – a very strange idea in the ancient
world!
b. Deuteronomy 6:4 – all heart, soul, mind, strength
5. God’s way of training involved blessing faithful behavior and disciplining
unfaithfulness. Deuteronomy 28:15-20
6. This is so He might convince them that He does what he says.
a. Faith in the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob: Hab. 2:2-4
